The Crown is a historical drama streaming television series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II,
created and principally written by Peter Morgan and produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures
Television for Netflix. Morgan developed it from his drama film The Queen (2006) and especially his
stage play The Audience (2013).
The Crown focuses on Queen Elizabeth II as a 25-year-old newlywed faced with the daunting prospect of
leading the world’s most famous monarchy while forging a relationship with legendary Prime Minister, Sir
Winston Churchill. The British Empire is in decline, the political world is in disarray, and a young
woman takes the throne….a new era is dawning.
Chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times. The series begins with an
inside look at the early reign of the queen, who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her
father, King George VI. As the decades’ pass, personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries are
revealed that played a big role in events that shaped the later years of the 20th century.
